Virtual / remote bursar

A virtual or remote bursar service delivers the bursar function principally off-site, through a monthly retainer plus task-based fees. The model is best suited to schools with a clean MIS, online banking and a confident office manager on the ground. Pricing is quote-only and is normally scoped per school by the provider.

Pricing

Retainer pricing typically starts in the low four figures per month for a small school and rises with the transaction volume. Providers do not publish per-school rates; contracts are scoped on a discovery call.[1]

Supporting stack

The viability of the model rests on the school's underlying systems. A school with PS Financials, IRIS or Arbor for MIS, an online banking platform with secondary authorisation, and a competent office manager on the ground can normally run a virtual bursar service well. A school with a paper-based purchase ledger normally cannot.[2][3]

When virtual beats on-site fractional

Virtual normally beats on-site fractional when the school is on a strong system stack and when the office manager has the authority and confidence to handle the on-site touchpoints. Otherwise, on-site fractional tends to deliver a better outcome for the same cost.
